Beipu Old Street
A+ A-
Located in Beipu Township, Hsinchu County, the Beipu Old Street area includes Beipu Street, Miaoqian Street, Nanxing Street, and Chengmen Street. The township of Beipu on the flat foothills had been a primary destination for Hakka immigrants since the Qing Dynasty. The immigrants cultivated the land year after year and many of their houses are now kept as historic sites. Short walls, old houses, and teahouses can be found along the pebble trail beside the Citian Temple, a registered county historic site. There are more historical buildings around the temple one meter in circumference, including the Jinguangfu House, Tienshui Hall, Zhongshu Hall, as well as county historic sites Jiang A-Hsin Residence and Jiang’s Family Temple. If you are tired from walking, just have a hearty meal at any of the Hakka restaurants or enjoy a cup of “puff tea” or ground tea at a teahouse. The delicious food will bring you back to the early times when Hakka people worked hard on the land and fought Japanese invaders.
