Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum
A+ A-
Many great woodcarving craftsmen settled in Sanyi when this mountainous township began to develop the woodcarving industry during the time of Japanese Occupation. The peak period was during the 60s’ and 70s’ when nearly 200 woodcarving craftsmen lived and developed their art in Sanyi. An illustrative example is the highly acclaimed sculptor Ju Ming, who was once the disciple of a woodcarving master in Miaoli. Today’s Sanyi still holds a key position in Taiwan’s woodcarving industry with many artists living here. Thanks to a well-planned development project, the various cultural activities and the establishment of Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum, now the township of Sanyi has become a well-known treasure land for visitors hunting for things made of wood, such as furniture, statues of deities, art pieces, daily supplies, eating utensils, toys and a lot more!
