Daxi Old Street
A+ A-
In early Taiwan, Daxi was prosperous as a log-shipping center. Despite that no more boats carrying logs are seen on the river, Daxi is not forgotten by people thanks to its specialty food of dried bean curd, beautiful Baroque-style architecture, and traditional woodenware stores. As one of the favorite tour destinations, the old street is always packed with family tourists on holidays. Daxi Old Street was developed in the Qing Dynasty. Today’s Heping Road, Zhongshan Road, and Zhongyang Road are all included in the area. A renovation project implemented during the time of Japanese Occupation turned the street into a brilliant display of Baroque-style archways, which is one of the most amazing attractions in the Heping Old Street area. In addition to appreciating the gorgeous architecture and enjoying delicious food or shopping around the old street area, don’t forget to take a walk in the riverside park at the end of Heping Road. You can sit under the tall trees with shady canopies to enjoy the cool breezes followed by getting around Chiang Kai-shek’s Chateau and admiring the magnificent view of Dahan River.
